This week I stepped out of my comfort zone to share with you 22 books I read as a teenager. This compilation is my favourite collection of all times. When Harry Potter appeared on the scene I was still reading these so that’s saying something! You guessed right, I am a fan of Jaqueline Wilson and I’m shouting it to the roof tops.

What are the 22 books about?

Jaqueline Wilson books are based on topics surrounding Family and Social matters . Adoption, divorce are just some of the topics. Her novels also highlight child adventure and the obstacles that could occur.

How did I discover Jaqueline Wilson?

Jaqueline Wilson the author with a note book and a pen in her hand.

It all began by watching her hit show on CBBC Channel Tracey Beaker. After pacing home quickly straight after school I felt so great engrossed in the scenes playing out at the ‘dumping ground’. I loved her character, she went through so much. Although I hadn’t lived a lifetime yet, I could still relate. Over time my passion to read her writing continued to grow.

What makes all 22 books I read so special?

Firstly, the illustrations by Nick Sharrat are amazing. Unique, cartoon like drawings help you picture yourself as the characters. Mentally and imaginatively putting you in the scene.

Secondly, I resonated with many of the characters. After reading ‘Lizzie Zipmouth’ again, her story struck a cord in me. My parents exposed me to different short term partners too. It was interesting to see this strong correlation. In my teens I found it hard to accept this and it drove me crazy at times.

Thirdly, her novels are structured and written uniquely. As a beginner writer, I use it as a tool to learn story writing in a way that’s easy for a younger reader to understand.

Why did all 22 books impact my life?

The books contribute to the person I am today. It helped me to understand similar situations that would occur. It was a temporary way of me escaping the hurt I felt but didn’t quite understand.

Who should read them?

The books are aimed for a younger audience. However, they are ageless and anyone can read them. Especially if you are facing any family tribulations, or just want a fiction book to read that is easy to follow and enjoy.
