I must admit this is a topic I have struggled with majorly. A wide range of experiences around loss can cause guilt, sadness, and mental confusion for short or long periods of time. (The 4 key areas that affected me are in the ‘About’ page).I will share helpful ways to handle loss in hope that you will remain strong. Truly having faith that a greater gain is coming your way.
Helpful way number 1 – Redefine loss
Firstly you need to redefine it. That means telling yourself a different story. I tend to replay the story in my mind over and over again. Which is great because clarity of the situation develops. At the same time it can have a worsening affect, drilling more and more pain and disbelief. So write yourself a new narrative which makes the story less harsh on yourself. Do this mentally or physically re-write it in a journal. Then tell others and yourself this story instead.
2nd Helpful way to handle loss – Stay active
Furthermore, loss can be soul-drenching. Losing someone you were close to and saw a future with can create a numbness. That can lead to a stillness or stagnation because all hope has gone. It’s important to stay active. Continue doing things you enjoy. At times a feeling of discouragement might creep up. Yet by being involved in the world and keeping a routine, will eventually reduce this and help you to continue living in hope that the loss will only get easier.
3rd Helpful way to handle loss – Pray
Surrender to God. Share your deepest thoughts. Ask for strength and guidance on how to manage any loss experienced.God will reveal ways to cope and provide support for you in some shape or form. It could be an external opportunity for example volunteering that brings you joy and closer to others who need your help. Prayer builds a connection that is accessible 24/7 with God. Jesus Christ understands our losses. Remain confident in God. After all, God has prepared a path for you to experience a greater gain.
4th Helpful way to handle loss – Affirm gains
Yes indeed greater gains are coming your way. Consider loss as Gods’ first step towards gain. Something more meaningful, long-lasting or aligned with your purpose is being released in your life. Affirmations are like seeds, sewn in thought they grow more and more powerful. It won’t be long before it comes to fruition. Above all, the loss will pass and you will realize your happiness will always last.
To conclude, you will become whole again. See losses as tests. Testing your faith in God. Testing your belief in the future. At the time it feels like there is no way out. In fact, God will unravel the plans created for you. Greater gains await you.
