Its times we reduce the appearance of dryness in 5 simple ways. The most common skincare complaint I’ve been receiving lately during client consultation is dryness. It’s a problem experienced no matter what age you are. After all I was born with eczema so I have an idea of what others go through when a scaly patch shows up unexpectedly. Did you know dryness is one of the main causes of British women being unhappy about their skin.
Research conducted by Japanese skincare brand Hado Labo Tokyo (sold in Superdrug) confirms this. Facial dryness can occur seasonally. Most importantly dryness can have a huge impact on confidence levels and our ability to feel good in our skin.
1. Wash skin using warm water
A confession I hear a lot in the treatment room is ‘I enjoy a hot shower’. Don’t feel guilty we all do, but this is the fist thing you should minimise. Instead, opt for warm water. Splash at the end with cold water. Pat the skin dry using a soft towel or facial sponges or air dry for 2 minutes. In the long run practicing this will preserve the natural oil production which keeps your skin youthful and happy.
2. Choose a cleanser that will reduce the appearance of dryness
When you scan the store shelves look out for all the different types of Cleansers. From gels, oils, balms, creams, milks, foam, clay there are many to choose from. The richer the ingredients and more natural it is will be more beneficial than just buying anything and everything. Be wise with your choice and if it contains an uplifting scent thats a bonus too!
3. Apply a hydrating serum to reduce the appearance of dryness
Reduce the appearance of dryness by adding Serums to your skincare regime. Its a leader in it’s right and should be applied after eye serum or eye cream. Also a drop can be added to a day moisturiser incase you’re limited for time in the morning.
Key ingredients to look out for : Neroli, Hyaluronic Acid, Rose geranium
Check out ESPA website as many of their products are enriched with these types of ingredients.
4. Layer up!
Incase your skin is drinking up every drop of product, be alarmed. This is your cue to continue the layering process (in the correct order of course). Sticking with just a day moisturiser isn’t enough, especially in London’s harsh climate. In fact add a drop of hyaluronic acid into your hands and press the product in gently across the décolleté, neck and face. Then use your final products.
Personally, I love this product! Vichy Mineral 89 Hyaluronic Booster Serum 50ml I wore it on every long haul flight (16hrs being the longest DXB – MCO) when I was an Air Stewardess. I applied it underneath my day moisturiser,SPF, and a full face makeup. And made sure whenever I visited the States I purchased a 3-4 months supply at either CVS Pharmacy or Duane Reade. The hunt was real but 100% necessary.
If you’re new to skincare I’d highly recommend trying it.
5. Use a facial mist on the go to reduce dryness
Finally, these light weight, easy travel product is great to take to the gym. To the workplace if you’re indoors or outdoors all day. Additionally, you can mist it onto makeup too to refresh your skin.
My favourite at the moment is ESPA Hydrating floral spa-fresh mist
